Gomez returns to victory lane

HIALEAH, Fla. - Absent from victory lane since late 1998, Kendrick Gomez took care of that problem with a wire-to-wire win in the 25 lap late model sportsman feature Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Starting his blue and red mount from the pole position, Gomez never put a wheel wrong all evening and led Gary McGoron to the checkers on the flat third-mile oval. Greg Kaouk, point leader Bob Regula and Alan Janney rounded
out the top five runners.

Steve Godlewski, largely inactive in recent seasons, dusted off his street stock and blasted to a feature victory in the 25 lap main. Point leader Chalo DeCastro shadowed the winner but settled for runner-up honors in front of Gary Padula, Randy Boorman and Billy Joyner.

Mustang mounted Bill Calder had a perfect night in the mini stocks as he won his heat race then came back to lead all 25 laps in winning the headliner for the four cylinder cars. Ken Chaiser in the only truck in the field went
to the rear twice but came back to run second in the final rundown over Kenny Strong, Steve Quick and Harold Cross in a borrowed car.

Cyclone action saw point leader Roger Bohannon the winner when apparent victor Johnny Bulaskas could not get his Camaro past the tech crew. Bohannon, who is the current point leader, got the win over Mike Powers, Mark
Schoedinger, early leader Bruce Moerlins and Gabe Hernandez.
