Jerry Maxson, representing the firefighters in a check presentation, a part of the funds raised to assist Kaleigh. The 2nd Annual Charity Truckers 200 presented by Biscayne Roofing, that ran last weekend at Orlando Speedworld, has raised $12,374.00 for Kaleigh, Bob and Misty Helmick, according to event organizer Rick Bristol.
Racers from around the state in several different divisions or forms of racing came together to raise money for this family with many great sponsors helping to make it possible. Weather put a little twist into the event, leading to some delays and cutting short the program. But as Bristol pointed out, he crews, drivers, officials and fans fought through it to accomplish the mission.
"I really am just beside myself as to the overwhelming support, that the racers, official, crews and fans showed for this event. Bristol said after the event. "It really is becoming a huge deal, and that is what I prayed for since the inception of the first one." stated Promoter Rick Bristol.
The fans turned out even with the overcast weather. When the rains did come, interupting the on track autograph session, fans spent the time makign new aqauintences, enjoying the Sprint Car Simulators and the display of Daytona Antique Auto Racers cars.
"So many folks showed so much support, when I was stressing they just said it will be ok, Rick. I know for many, things did not go well, but for the most part everyone showed great professionalism and handled things well." Stated Bristol.
There were some parts of the well planned program that were not able to happen due to the rain. Bristol explained, "I really apologize to the folks that were left without the opening ceremonies and the proper thank you's. I really wanted to get to thank them all for what they did. I have tried to convey that message after the event and through e-mails and posts, I am so very grateful and appreciative to all of them and words alone do not do justice to the way they have touched my heart and the heart of the Helmick's and the Hopkins families. There were also some things left out of the program and I promise that will be fixed next year. I had folks donate money to both families. We have collected $987.00 for the Hopkins family as well, because of some awesome people. I will round it up and be sending them $1,000 for a nice Christmas".
The wheels arre already spinning for the 3rd addition of the Charity Trtuckers 200 for 2008 and some changes and surprises will begin being announced hopefully by the end of January. Last year $6,584.00 was raised for the Hopkins Family, this year $12,374.00 for the Helmick's and $1000.00 for the Hopkins.
Bristol said, "In two events just short of $20,000 has been raised and race drivers, crews, officials and fans should be proud to be able to help those in need, you have done well, and are to be thanked."
Bristol imparted a special Holiday message for the fans, drivers and others who supporteed the event this year: "I again say thanks to all from the bottom of my heart, I pray God Blesses everyone that had a part in this, and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2008 be a great year for all. I am praying God gives the Helmick's a miracle for Kaleigh. I am so grateful for what he has done for Tommy, I serve a great God" !
