Adams No Surprise at East Bay Raceway Park | By Jason Loughren
An excited crowd was on hand for the second night of racing in a row as the ASCS 360 Sprints and Florida Mini Sprints joined the weekly series to provide another exciting night on the Clay by the Bay. The Street Stocks were first on the track. Charlie Paris, Jr. who has had his share of good and back luck this year started in the 5th position. Paris, Jr. would use a late pass on Matthew Grissom to take the lead and eventually the win. The feature win for Paris was his 10th of the season. Danny Hill finished 2nd. Timothy Dowling was 3rd. Buck Woodhouse and Buck Skinner rounded out the top-5. Woodhouse, Grissom and Paris, Jr. won the heat races.
The Florida Mini Sprints brought 26 cars to the track for their 15-lap feature. Amanda Ferguson had the car to beat and took the early lead. The fourteen year-old would take the win, her first feature win in the series. Jim Young finished 2nd. Jesse Teed, Russ Heider, and Brittany Frosh rounded out the top-5. Eddie Moss, Eddie Moss, Jr. and John Craddock won the heat races.
In the ASCS 360 Sprints Kenny Adams started on the pole and held off the hard charging Matt Tiffany for the win. Adams won the 10-lap dash to secure the pole position. Tiffany finished 2nd. Greg Leonard started 10th and finished 3rd. Danny Martin, Jr. finished 4th and Brian Maddox was 5th. Brian Maddox, Adams, and Dakota Stephens won the heat races.
It was a night full of drama for T.J Winegardner, Jr. as he smacked the turn 1 wall on the first lap of the first heat race.
--Advertisement-- Winegardner’s car was heavily damaged on impact and he needed to score points in the feature race to wrap up the points championship. After conferring with race officials it was determined that Winegardner must use the car he started the heat race in to be credited with points in the feature, which ruled out the use of his back-up car.
Winegardner’s crew went to work and had his car fixed by the time the B-Main started. He finished 4th in the B-Main and would make it into the 20 car feature race. With his 18th place finish in the feature Winegardner was crowned ASCS Rebel Division points champion.
In the Convire 4-Cylinder bombers Jerimie Ellis used a last lap pass on Roberto Morfin to take the win, his first of the season. Morfin led the entire race as Ellis who started 14th worked his way through the field. By the white flag lap Ellis was right on the back bumper of Morfin, the two would run nose to tail through turn 3 in the final lap. Morfin washed up the track on the final turn and Ellis went by to take the checkered flag. Morfin finished 2nd. Collin Kruse, KC Laramee and Frank Miller rounded out the top-5. Laramee and Miller won the heat races.
It was the final event of the season for the Limited Sprints. Jimmy Balew went to victory lane for the first time this season. Greg Leonard started 15th and finished 2nd battling for the lead until the end. Rick Byerly was 3rd. Mike Steinruck came home in the 4th position. The fifth spot went to Gene Lasker. Lasker was crowned points champion and let the crowd know it by doing a classic burnout on the front stretch. Tim George and Lasker won the heat races.
