Kenny Adams Takes ASCS Night One At East Bay | by Bill Green, From Behind The MIC!
East Bay Raceway Park welcomed the ASCS Rebel Region 360 sprint cars on to the clay-by-the-bay for night one of a two-night event. It will be the final two races for the ASCS southern region series for 2007 and Friday run tightened the points race for local favorite T. J. Winegardner of Pierson, Florida and Pendergrass, Georgia’s Brian Thomas.
Separated by only 30 points coming into the event, with Winegardner on top, Thomas made up a lot on points on the leader, when T.J. wound up one lap down to winner Kenny Adams.
Meanwhile, Adams had his hands full with Greg Leonard in the CAT sponsored #3 getting by several times on the track as both drivers worked lapped traffic. In the end it would be a late race caution that removed the lapped traffic for the final six circuits. Giving Adams his clean sweep on the night, with a heat race win and the feature event victory. The sweep earned the “Malabar Missile” driver $500 extra bonus dollars from C & B Mushroom Farms for the double and brought his winner’s share to an even $2000 night.
Third behind Adams and Leonard would be Mat Tiffany, with Bryn Gohn fourth and Adam Gordan rounding out the top five.
Florida Mini Sprints ran a 20-lap Feature, shortened to 14 due to time, with Jim Young coming out on top. Second went to Russ Heider even after a tip over during a mid-race caution. Third was John Craddock, fourth went to points leader Eddie moss, Jr. and Jesse Teed settled for fifth. --Advertisement-- Local classes included Outlaw 4’s won by Matt Haynes over Shane Burrows, but Burrows gain several points on championship leader Chad Rose, as his 7JR finished 9th. Third went to Cecil Martin, fourth Travis Varnadore and Paul Sampson went fifth.
Open Wheel Modifieds saw young “Deputy” Dale Kelly take the win, while an all out points scramble happened behind him. Point’s leader Jeff Mathews challenged early for the win, but was caught in a mid-race tangle that took him to the pits for a few laps. He settled for 11th spot. That left second in points Roger Crouse and third in points Jamie Burrows to battle for the third and fourth spots. Burrows came out on top in second. Second went to veteran Bobby Dixon, leaving the final top-5 spot for Chad Hadlick.
The ASCS Rebel Region will also open their 2008 season here at East Bay Raceway Park, January 26-28th sanctioning the 360 Winter Nationals. Have an opinion on
