THREE FLORIDA DRIVERS SCORE TOP TENS AT VEGAS LEGEND CAR NATIONALS | By Dave Westerman
INEX/600 Racing held their 16th Annual Asphalt Nationals this past weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's "Bullring" with 205 entries for the Legend Car Pro, Semi-Pro and Masters classes as well as the Thunder Roadsters with three drivers from Florida securing top ten finishes in whatr was a star-studded field.
Josh Williams of Port Charlotte had the best run of any driver from the Sunshine state as he wound up with a second place finish in the Legend Semi-Pro feature.
That race would have a wild finish as leader Zach Zimmerly and second-running Christian Pahud tangled on the final lap giving the win to John Stancill. Williams, who was running fourth going into the final stanza, avoided the incident to claim the runner-up position.
Alex Kempf, another Speedworld PBG Tour regular, also made the trip to Las Vegas where he advanced to the C main.
No one could touch 15 year old hot-shot Casey Roderick in the Legend Car Pro main event. Roderick, who won the 2006 Legend Car Invitational at the PRI festivities at Orlando Speedworld, is the 2007 INEX Pro Champion as well as the Lowe's Motor Speedway Summer Shootout titlist.
Central Florida drivers (and rivals) Kory Abbott of Apopka and Brandon Thomson of St. Cloud came home fifth and sixth in the Pro main in a field dominated by stars of Legend Car racing. Oviedo's Shaughn McCormick also qualified for the A main but had problems early and was credited with a 34th place finish.
North Carolina's Clay Hair, well known to fans of the Winternationals held at Orlando Speedworld each year, claimed yet another National Title in winning the Masters Division feature at Las Vegas for drivers age 40 and up.
After nearly a month off, the Legend Cars return to Orlando Speedworld for their final point race of the season this Saturday night. Have an opinion on
