Drew Brannon Dedicates Win To Cancer Stricken Grandmother | by Bill Green This month, June 2007, will prove to be a turning point for young Drew Brannon. His racing, as well as his life, may never be the same. Stepping into one of the countries better racing schools for some one-on-one instruction over two days, Brannon has apparently honed the skills and knowledge required to make it to the next level. To test his new found knowledge, the Brannon Specialties Racing team choose to visit New Smyrna for the local Limited Late Model 15-lap Feature. Drew Brannon won, going away, but in the thrill of a lesson learned and the excitement of a truly great win, the youngster showed he was not thinking about the win, but about his cancer stricken Grandmother Baker in Arizona. "I want to dedicate this win to my Grandma Baker in Arizona," stated the Miami based driver by phone. "She's wants to see me win before it's to late, but time maybe running out." Starting ninth on the pill draw format, Brannon used the new lessons learned to make an inside move toward the front on the original start, the second complete restart and finally on the "Third starts the charm," final complete restart.
Now starting fifth due to attrition, Brannon wasted no time to get at the lead. Taking the "Blue Bullet" to third in lap one, the maturing driver passed the next two guys to take the top spot on lap two and never looked back. Brannon used his new lessons, his inner spirit, some inside moves and his family values to step ever so much closer to the dream he holds of his future. Stepping from childhood to manhood can be a struggle that lasts several years, but somewhere along the way there's that single incident that stands out as notable. History may make it evident that this seven day stretch in June, marks part of Drew's journey from here to there. Where ever there is, but just being part of the crowd along the way, makes being a hard core race fan, well worth the trouble. Drew Brannon will continue his strive for excellence this weekend at DeSoto Super Speedway in the Limited Late Model class as he battles for 100-laps for his opportunity to visit Victory Lane, again.
