The Fastruck Racing Series has undergone a top to bottom reorganization over the past three months and it appears that the series is ready to provide race fans with some high quality entertainment in 2007.
Ronnie Sims in coordination with all of the Fastruck racing teams has taken complete control of the Fastruck Touring Series. Race Director for the series last year, Sims has an extensive background in the motor-sports community. For the past twenty six years he has been Marketing Director for Mctime Racing Promotions as well as being a lifelong avid race fan.
Sims' vision for Fastruck is to have the series be 100 percent legal and affordable for the racers. He wants to take the series to the next level, but maintains that every race team will have a voice in everything the series decides to do.
Sims said recently, "together with most of the teams we are already making some really neat progress. It will take a lot of hard work, but I know that together we can accomplish anything we set our minds to."
Ronnie Sims said he is just handling the Fastruck touring division and has made it very clear the Charlotte County Motorsports truck division is not part of the series. The Fast Late Models is also no longer a part of the Fastruck organization. This means the series has been pared back to its roots, providing an afforable racing series and running Fastruck Pros and Fastkids for the youngsters. Over the past five years the Fastkids racing division has been a training ground for new talent, and dozens of drivers in Late Models, ASA and Super Late Models have the Fastkids on their resume.
According to Fastruck officials the schedule on the Fastruck website is now current and correct and drivers are being assured the only thing that would change on the schedule is track location not date. That is because there are negotiations under way with several tracks, with the goal of expanding the speedways that Fastrucks will race at in 2007.
The series has also implemented a new policy regarding rain outs. According to officials "if we rain out at an event the that the next scheduled tour date will be a double points event". With this rain out policy the series is following an example set by TBARA, one of the most successful of all Florida's touring series.
Sims has also instituted a new driver's committee which will consist of three from the Pro Division as well as three from the Fastkids Division. This is to ensure the drivers voices are heard and the input will help in guiding the series in the drivers best interests.
"We both know there are many hurdles to clear in the near future but with good leadership and input from the drivers and teams we can move forward and make this all work again," Mike Powers said. Powers has been a driver with the series for several years and was instrumental in reviving Hialeah in 2000, and operated the track for two years.
Powers said "with the present cost of racing you will see more racers lean towards a crate motor division in all types of racing and this is how Fastrucks have grown over the years, racers are looking for new avenues to keep racing cost down and still have a fair chance to compete."
The Fastrucks Series will be the feature event at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on March 31st for their next points race. Practice Friday March 30th from 5:00PM-9:00PM. Visit www.fastruckracingseries.com for more information on the series.
