![](http://www.karnacmedia.com/images2007/tbara5.jpg) The Tampa Bay Area Racing Association announced today the series will be returning to Charlotte County Motorsports Park this year. On April 14, 2007, the TBARA will hold the 6th annual 'Dick Friedley Memorial' race at Charlotte County.
The program will consist of 3 heat races of 8 laps each and a 35-lap feature, honoring Mr. Friedley, sponsored by Dayton Andrews Dodge. Dick Friedley had a very big part in making the TBARA what it is today. Mr. Friedley was the club photographer, PR officer and points keeper, among other things. All of those who knew Mr. Friedley remember him fondly and with great respect and admiration. He crossed the finish line for his final Checkered Flag in October 2001.
Previous winners include Mark Gimmler in 2006, Gary Gimmler in 2005, Wayne Reutimann, Jr. in 2004, Joey Aguilar in 2003, and Sport Allen in 2002.
This coming weekend the TBARA winged sprints will thrill the fans at both Ocala Speedway and at Columbia Motorsports Park near Lake City, Fl. Ocala Speedway races on Friday night and Columbia on Saturday. Keith Butler, the current points leader, may be the racer to watch this weekend. Butler won the last two outings at Ocala in 2006 and in fact last August won Friday night at Ocala and followed it with a win at Columbia.
The last time the TBARA Winged Sprint club pounded the pavement at the Punta Gorda race track was in November 2005 when fans watched in awe as Dave Steele drove through the field of twenty-six cars for the win, which was the last race of the year for the club.
The Tampa Bay Area Racing Association runs up to 26 races a year throughout Florida, and each year boasts the largest crowds of any traveling series. Over 60,000 race fans take in a TBARA during the year. Marketing partnerships and opportunities are available with the series and any inquires should be to club President Don Rehm at the TBARA headquarters during business hours, phone 813-677-7326.
