New Asphalt Highlights New Smyrna Speedway Improvements For 2007 | By Jack Smith
When race fans from around the North and Midwest head to New Smyrna Speedway for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, they are going to be in for a huge surprise. The track is being resurfaced for the first time since the 1970s, and will most certainly make the racing in 2007 lightning fast at what is already one of the South's fastest half-mile paved speedways.
![](http://www.karnacmedia.com/images2007/newsmyrnawork.jpg) "We are bringing in new marketing partners this year and we are real excited about that." Terry Roberts said a few days ago. He added that the real buzz is the repaving of the speedway, which will be completed and ready around the 25th of January.
The annual asphalt "speedweeks" shows at New Smyrna begin on the 9th of February and runs nine straight nights ending on the 17th with the Pete Orr Memorial 100 Super Late Model race. In addition to Late Model and Super Late Model shows there is just about every kind of modified racing you can imagine and back to back TBARA Winged Sprints during the nine days of racing.
"Fast and exciting, what can I say", Roberts said, adding "and new track records, fast and exciting." One of the highlights will also be the 16th when the "Richie Evans Memorial 100" modified race takes place. Typically drivers from all around the country come to New Smyrna and bring their best to test themselves against the best. Example being Ted Christopher of northern modified fame.
In addition to the new pavement, the entire speedway is getting new fencing which, in addition to the improvements over last few years, should give the track a whole new 'look' for race fans, and well as add to the safety level.
Also a new 5 by eleven foot video message center out in front of the facility with new landscaping will greet fans when they pull up to the corner of State Route 44 and 415 just east of New Smyrna.
When the track resurfacing is complete we will carry photos and get the reactions of the drivers, so stay tuned for some wild times at New Smyrna Speedway in 2007. Have an opinion on
