Citrus Closes 50th Anniversary Saturday with Winter Spectacular III | by Larry MacMillan
It ain’t over till the final checkered flag flies and that will happen this Saturday night with Citrus County Speedway’s Winter Spectacular III.
Citrus County Speedway will close out one of its most successful seasons in its 50 year history. Five hundred nineteen different race drivers took on the premier 3/8ths mile in regular Saturday night points races in nine divisions to include Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsmen, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks, 4 Cylinder Bombers and Figure 8’s. Add another 100+ drivers in traveling series drivers that raced during 2005 and it has been a record year for competitors at this historic short track.
Closing out the 50th Anniversary will be a super special that should have the fans on their feet most of the night. Highlighting the finale will be the wild and crazy Figure 8 School Bus races that should have two divisions for the Pros and Rookie’s. Last time out drew a total of 18 buses. The Boat Trailer Race is back and this is more fun than a barrel of monkey’s to participate in or watch.
The racing purest certainly won’t be disappointed with the high speed and very competitive Open Wheel Modifieds going in a 100 lap special. Added to the program will be a 50 Lap Mini Stock feature and 50 lap Hobby Stock Special from a division that saw 104 race drivers in the season point’s race. A late addition to the race card is the Outlaw Mini Modifieds who also put on a great show.
Saturday night’s Winter Spectacular III is the only game in town and will certainly be a fitting end to the record breaking 50th Anniversary Celebration. This will also be the final opportunity to pick up tickets for the Annual Awards Banquet set for 6 p.m. Friday December 16th at the Citrus County Auditorium. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple and will be available at the pit office and the front gate.
Come join us for a festive night with food, entertainment, awards for the division top ten and special awards as voted by the drivers, fans, speedway management and The Citrus County Chronicle Driver of the Year awards.
