Inverness, FL -November 12, 2005- If the first leg of the Triple Crown Series for the FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Models is a barometer of what the next two races will be like, the forecast is going to be hot and stormy.

A total of 23 Super Late Models took to the Citrus County Speedway 3/8 mile asphalt oval for time trial qualifying. Jeff Choquette wheeled the Arrowood Racing #70 for the quickest lap in 13.622 seconds. Completing the top five fastest qualifiers were: Jim Smith (13.741), Daniel Webster (13.750), Rich Pratt (13.764) and Jeff Scofield (13.765).
Choquette had the honor of drawing the pill which would determine the inversion for the starting field. He drew the number seven thus inverting the first seven qualifiers. This put Wayne Anderson on the pole with Mike Bresnahan joining him in the front row.
When the green flag flew for the start of the 125 lap grind Bresnahan won the drag race to turn one over Anderson coming off turn two with the lead. Before the lap was completed, however, the caution lights were on. C.J. Calabrese crashed into the backstretch wall. Physically he was all right, but his heavily damaged machine had to be towed back to the pits.
It was a complete restart with no change from the original starting lineup with the exception of Calabrese. Once again it was Anderson and Bresnahan leading the field to the green.
This time it was a good "door handle to door handle" battle between Anderson and Bresnahan for the lead over the first two or three laps with Bresnanan showing a slight lead at the start/finish line for each of the laps before forcing Anderson back into second.
Anderson used a "bump and run" to get by Bresnahan on lap 15 taking over the lead. Daniel Webster passed Rich Pratt two laps later to move into fourth. With 20 laps showing the top ten were Anderson, Bresnahan, Jeff Scofield, Webster, Pratt, Smith, Choquette, Chris Fontaine, Daniel Keene and Scott Grossenbacher.
There was no change in the running order of the top ten through two caution periods until lap 58 when Keene lost the handles on his racer ending up in the dirt pile at the base of the fourth turn infield light.
At the half way point the running order was Anderson, Bresnahan, Scofield, Webster, Pratt, Smith, Choquette, Fontaine, Grossenbacher, and Chris Hooker.
Fontaine and Grossenbacher were hooked up in a good battle for eighth spot until lap 71 when they came together in turns three and four to bring out a caution. Wayne Morris and Scott Millar were caught up in the same incident with Morris landing in the wall nose first. Morris was uninjured, but his car was done for the night. Fontaine, Grossenbacher and Millar picked up at the end of the field.
The racing action really heated up from lap 80 to the checkers as Bresnahan went to the outside of Anderson with the two duking it out, side-by-side, for several laps with the large crowd in attendance just eating it up.
Bresnahan noted that Anderson was beginning to lose his tires and was having problems keeping the car down. Bresnahan changed his strategy going to the bottom of the track on lap 97 to get by Anderson for the lead. Scofield slipped by as well dropping Anderson to third.
With 25 laps to go the top five were Bresnahan, Scofield, Anderson, Pratt and Smith.
Smith's fine run in the top five came to an end when he spun out on lap 113 in turns three and four. FASCAR officials contended that James Powell assisted Smith around and both drivers were sent to the tailend.
With just ten laps to go Bresnahan remained on top followed by Scofield, Anderson, Pratt and Choquette who had moved into the top five.
The yellow came out on lap 118 for debris on the track. On the restart Bresnahan's car faltered. He went down pit road to the pit area relinquishing the lead to Scofield.
Choquette got by Pratt for third on lap 123 and was challenging Anderson for second over the final two laps.
On the final lap Choquette went for broke diving real low under Anderson in turns three and four. Choquette's car came up out of turn four while Anderson came down. Contact was made which saw Choquette's car ride over the left front fender and hood of Anderson's car. Danny Johnson was able to get by for second. Choquette recovered to take third with Grossebacher and Webster completing the top five. Anderson hobbled across the line in ninth.
The drama and excitement of FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model racing moves to New Smyrna Speedway next Saturday night for the 40th Annual "Governor's Cup 200" which is the second leg of the Triple Crown Series.
