Inverness, Fla - Just as racefans thought racing was over for 2002, the second annual Winter Spectacular II will be run at Citrus County Speed- way this Saturday, December 14.
Twenty six of Florida's "Best of the Best" entered the first Winter Spectacular I in December 2001 with twenty three taking the green flag. Mike Bresnahan was the big winner of the race and also collected the Nick Nicholas Ford Fast Qualifier Award for his lap of 14.040 seconds.
Following Bresnahan to the checkers was Herb Neumann, Jr., Mac Johnson, Andy Werden, Danny Johnson, Jared Allison and Mason Love who was the hard charger of the race when he started in the 23rd position and finished seventh. Only seven cars were on the lead lap with eleven cars finishing the race. Bruce Gaskins, John Buzinec, Billy Bechtelheimer, and Ed Sartori rounded out the eleven finishers.
Chris Hooker won the Sportsman thirty-five lap Special but this year it will be the Mini Stocks in action with a 75 lap $1200 to win special. Drivers from around the state are expected for this race.
Mike Bell took the Super Stock win last year along with Rick Sirman who took the Mini Stock feature. J.D. Goff showed how the Hobby Stocks do it with his win and Stuart Madison took the Thunder Stock win.
This year the Super Late Models will run a 125 lap race with $5,000 to win. Expected in the field are Mike Bresnahan, Wayne and Dick Anderson, Mike Franklin, Jr., Patrick Williams, Herb Neumann, Jr., Mike Fritts, Lee Faulk, Jim Smith, Freddie Query, David Rogers, Jeff Scofield, Rich Pratt, Rex Struble, Mac Johnson, Jonny Kay, Robbie Yoakam, Daniel Keene, Jr. (winner of the 2nd race of Winter Spectacular I) and David Pletcher.
Fans will get a chance to win the "They Win, You Win" Fan Appreciation Giveaway. Each fan, 18 years of age and older with a paid adult admission on the Grandstand side only, will be given a chance to win. Before qualifying, 20 tickets will be drawn and fans will be paired with a driver who has finished in the top 5 of a "Big Late Model Event" during the 2002 season. If one of these drivers win the Winter Spectacular II, the fan paired with that driver will win $500.00 from Citrus County Speedway.
Along with the 125 lap Super Late Model event and the 75 lap Mini Stock special, there will be 25 lap feature races for the Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and the Thunder Stocks plus the rained out "Powder Puff Derby".
