Chad Allman Takes DeSoto Limited Late 50 Lapper | Bill Davis Wraps up SARA Pro Truck Championship By Rick Anges Bradenton, Fl. With the season winding down and the weather getting cooler the action on the track was just the opposite. The points races are close in almost every class so the trading of sheet metal and side by side racing is the way the races will be the rest of the year.
Jeff Dufresne 34 and Chad Allman 67 were the fastest cars on the speedway and it showed as the two battled for the lead. Duffers was involved in an altercation early in the race and had to go to the rear of the pack. Once Allan took the lead he never looked back sometimes leading the rest of the field by a full straightaway. The action was hot and heavy behind him though as positions were swapped back and forth lap after lap.
When the white flag flew Dufresne had moved back into the fight for the third spot with 1 of Johnny Jackson, the two came together in turn four with Dufresne spinning towards the wall and Jackson crossing the stripe third but after a review by the race director it was determined that Jackson was rough driving and gave the spot back to Dufresne.
Allman took the checkers. Returning to the high banks after being in North Carolina most of the year Bill Close made a triumphant return taking the second spot, third went to Dufresne, fourth was new comer to the late models Tim Garrod, and rounding out the top five in first venture in the Limited series was the 98 of Lonny Miller.
SARA Pro Trucks
All that Bill Davis 7 needed to do was to take the green flag to claim the SARA Truck championship and that he did claiming his second championship of the year after having claimed the DeSoto Open Wheel title just weeks before.
Mason Love 70 was fast qualifier but was offered an extra $200 to start from the rear which he accepted but mechanical problems forced him to retire his ride early in the race after making contact with another truck.
Davis took the green flag and did all he could to hold off the hard charging truck of Thomas Carter 12 but Carter eventually got around the champ and took the trophy, Davis finished second, third was 24 BJ Gill, fourth was Tim Chaffer 29 and fifth was 3 Brian Dinah.
