Thursday, October 31, 2002 | | "KING OF THE BULLRING" To be Crowned at Orlando's X-Games Saturday | by Dave Westerman
With the rules for the classes so similar, quite a few drivers and fans have wondered: Who is faster, the FASTRUCKS or the Classic Auto Racing Series machines?
That question will be answered Saturday, at the Xtreme Halloween Race Clash and Motorsports X-Games at Orlando SpeedWorld.
The top four finishers in the 50-lap FASTRUCK season finale and the 30-lap main event for the Classic cars will duke it out in a 12-lap "Battle of the Bullring" as a fitting finale to a day chock full or racing and fun.
The eight car/truck shootout will pay $100 to the winner along with a big trophy. The top finishing Classic Car and truck behind the winner will also receive $50 each.
The only time the two Series faced each other in the past was two years ago at Columbia Motorsports Park when Paul Grynewicz and Paul Grynewicz III ran their FASTRUCKS with the CARS machines at the CARS sanctioned event. Danny Shearer in a Classic Car prevailed that day, but with the veteran Grynewicz right on his bumper.
The FASTRUCKS and Classics will run the rare SpeedWorld Saturday show along with the non-wing FASTSPRINTS and FAST Sport Bikes. It's believed this may be the first race card featuring both car and motorcycle racing on the same day since sprint cars and flat-track riders ran shows together at the old Florida Fairgrounds Plant Field track in the late 70's.
Gates and the big midway open at 9 A.M. with practice taking place from 9 A.M. until noon. Racing begins with heats at l P.M. followed by a Halloween trick-or-treat and meet-and-greet between 5 and 6 P.M. Feature race action will begin at 6:30 P.M.
Adult admission is $25 for the whole day and kids under 12 are free. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! <news@karnac.org>or send a letter to the editor!
