Tuesday, October 22, 2002 | | Two Ocala Race Teams are "Racing For Smiles" | October 14,2002, Ocala Fl.-- Racing for Smiles is a program designed for seriously ill or injured young race fans. These kids are members of the Childrens Miracle Network and have all been treated at Shands Childrens Hospital at UF. The program is designed to give these children a day filled with stock car racing excitement and a day that has nothing to do with hospitals, doctors or pain.
This program was created in 1997 by Ohio Late Model driver Ms. Sue Sutton, who is the national program president. This program has stirred the hearts and smiles of many, both young and old. With the latest addition to its board, NASCAR's Jimmy Spencer, Racing for Smiles is destined to continue putting theses beautiful Smiles on these children's faces for a very long time.
Kelly Racing Team of Williston and Smith Racing of Coleman are the local teams hosting this wonderful program at Ocala Speedway for the inaugural event for the State. Each team will host one special child ,who is the crew chief for the day, and their family for the evenings events, at no charge to the families, which include, pit passes, autograph sessions, photo sessions with the car and drivers, and the grand finale a few laps around the speedway in the official pace car, while leading the Racing For Smiles victory parade with the checkered flags waving, as these children are the true victors in their battles.
Please plan to attend the Florida inaugural Racing For Smiles event to be held at. Ocala Speedway on November 8, 2002. Smiles events begin at 7:30 and racing action begins at 8pm.
