Samsula, Fla - The Florida Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (FASCAR) will run a double-header of Late Model racing in "97 Country" WPCV Octoberfest 2002 presented by The Boy Scouts of America on Saturday night at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL with racing beginning at 7:30 p.m.
FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Models will run a 125 lap race and Goodyear Challenge Series Late Models will compete in a 100 lap event on the three-quarter mile track.
Tight point races in Sunbelt and Goodyear events is sure to make these Late Model features true fender benders.
In Sunbelt Super Late Models Michael Williams of Mims, FL in his South 40 Motorsports ride with 791 leads the way and David Rogers of Orlando, FL with 766 is staying close in his TM Ranch Dodge.
Early Sunbelt point leader Dick Anderson of Wildwood is still in close reach, but mechanical difficulties have slowed his progress. He has 731 points. James Powell of Astor, FL and winner at Sebring International Raceway during a road race in his A Natural Difference ride two weeks ago, is fourth with 710 marks.
Goodyear Challenge Series Late Model drivers are led by Jerry Symons of Clermont, FL driving the Central Florida Auto Expressride and he leads the way with 831 points.
Wayne Morris of Mulberry, FL in the Crenshaw Motorsports owned Michael Holley Chevrolet car is closing in quickly and won the last Goodyear race at USA. Morris is second in points with 798. Tony Amico of Clearwater is third on the point ladder with 767 in his Executive Racing School Chevrolet.
Ticket prices at USA are $15 - $25 and cost for children 10 and under is $5. You can call 1-800-984-7223 for credit card orders. Tickets can also be picked up now at the Speedway office.
Grandstand gates open at 11 a.m. and practice by division is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Qualifying by divisions is scheduled for 4 p.m. and an autograph session is at 6:15 p.m. Driver introductions are at 7:10 p.m. Have an opinion on this story?
