Dewease Dominates at Volusia

Lance

by Leo Dougherty
Volusia Speedway Park, Barberville, FL (Friday 2/8/02)-Thursdays rainout at Volusia Speedway Park gave the All Stars Circuit of Champions drivers an extra day to work on their cars after the Putnam County Speedway show Wednesday night. Because of the tight schedule at Volusia, no rain dates are scheduled.

This kid Lance Dewease is on a tear here in Florida. Once again he claimed the victory, leading all 20 laps of the $4,000 to win A main Friday.

At the start, the top four cars of Dewease, Stevie Smith, Greg Hodnett and Joey Saldana set the pace with at least two car lengths between each car. Smith lost power on the fourth lap, causing Kasey Kahne and Craig Dollansky to spin for the first caution. Smith lost power again on the next lap bringing out another yellow.

The final yellow flag was on lap nine when Dollansky came to a stop on turn four.

From that point it became a race for second and third place. Dewease developed a fair lead while Hodnett, Greg Wilson, Saldana and Lasoski scrambled for the second spot.

When it was all said and done Hodnett, Wilson, and Lasoski crossed the start finish line after Dewease with Saldana settling for the fifth spot.
