Bobby Allison Coming To Salute To Racing

Leader Of The "Alabama Gang" & Winston Cup Champion


As the racing community has quieted down for the winter, Southwest Florida’s Salute To Racing scheduled for January 19th and 20th at Sarasota Fairgrounds is guaranteed to excite and inspire racers and fans alike for the season ahead. Veteran Winston Cup Champion Bobby Allison will be the celebrity guest at Salute to Racing 2002. B Allison will sign autographs and compete in the in the Celebrity Go-Kart Challenge.

Fans also have the opportunity to attend the First Annual Checkered Flag Dinner Saturday, January l9th, with Bobby Allison as the guest of honor. Dinners range from $75 to $250 per person. A silent auction will be conducted prior to and during the dinner, and a live auction will conclude the evening. A highlight of the auction will be an authentic team uniform donated by Joe Gibbs Race Team and 2000 Winston Cup Champion Bobby Labonte. Also, a script from the popular T.V show Happy Days, donated by the "Fonz" himself will be auctioned off. A variety of other celebrity and sports related items, photos and apparel will be included in the auction as well. All proceeds from the dinner and auction will benefit the March of Dimes to aid them in their goal of providing babies with a healthy start in life.



Since its inception five years ago, Salute To Racing has grown into one of Florida's premiere motorsports events. Salute To Racing features something for every racing enthusiast showcasing the wide spectrum of racing, from NASCAP, IRL, CART, MRA and NHRA, to Sprints, Midgets, Funny Cars, Motocross, Drag Bikes, Go-Karts, Swamp Buggies and whatever other activity in which speed rules!

Spectators will have an opportunity to qualify for a chance to race our celebrity guest, Bobby Allison in the Celebrity Go-Kart Challenge. Also, there will be a racing and collectible swap meet and a Go-Ped Education Center. Returning favorites are monster truck rides, pit stop challenge, games and rides for the kids, and custom car and truck shows, along with the Hooters Jet Car.

Once again, the Sarasota Fairgrounds will be the host location for Salute To Racing, Saturday and Sunday, January 19th and 20th, 2002. The gates will be open from 10 am until 6 pm both days. General admission this year will be $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 6 through 12, and children under five get in free. There is plenty of free parking. $1.00 discount coupons will be available at many locations throughout Southwest Florida.
