Monday, November 19, 2001 | | Late Model’s Will Wear Goodyear in Citrus Winter Spectaculars | by Larry MacMillan (Inverness, Fl. 11/19/01) Winter racing is at the top of the get ready list for local as well as the best of the best Late Model pilots and owners in and around the state of Florida. Citrus County Speedway is getting set for Winter Spectacular I and Winter Spectacular II, December 15th 2001 and January 19th 2002.
Format for the race will be practice sessions on Friday evening December 14th and January 18th. Qualifying time trials for Late Models is scheduled for 4 P.M. on race day, setting the first fifteen positions. A 15 lap consolation race will set up the next seven qualifiers and a promoters choice will take care of the final two setting the 24 car starting field. Goodyear will be the race and qualifying tire and will be available at the track.
The 24-car field will go for all 100 laps under green with no caution laps counting. Race purse will be approximately $12,000 with $2,500 going to the winner, $1,400 for second and $1,000 for third. Fourteenth through 24th pays a minimum of $175.
Winter Spectacular II will have additional bonus money on the line for the winner. If they finish first through 5th in the first race there is a $1,000 additional payout bonus. Finish 6 through 10 in Winter Spectacular I and win race number II, pick up an additional $500. Eleven through 15 in race I will pick up another $250 for the win. In addition to the Late Model 100s, Sportsman, Street Stock, Mini Stock, Hobby Stock and Thunder Stocks will go in thirty lap feature races with additional bonus money available for race II winners if the finish in the top fifteen in race I. Only Late Models will be running the Goodyear tires for the Winter Spectaculars. All other divisions will run on the 2001 regular tires.
