Charlotte County Classes The Big Wheels Mini Stocks were on the track for our first feature of the night with #19D, Dale Dean on the pole. #94, Keith Risinger started out in ninth position but it wasn't long before he was challenging for the lead. Dean and Risinger moved out from the back and battled for the top spot for the last ten laps of the race. #19D, Dean took the win with #94, Risinger in second and #56, Brian Richardson in third.
The Lee's Auto Repair Road Warriors were up next for their twenty five lap feature with #18, Shane Leonard on the pole. A three car crash on the first lap brought out a caution and the Prompt Towing truck to help get the cars back to the pits. #73, Del Beckner was in the lead on lap seven, but #61, Chris Oncken took over the spot on lap fifteen before a blown engine in the #2 car of Lonnie Retheford brought out a caution and the all volunteer broom crew for cleanup. #30, Chris Huntoon blew an engine on lap twenty one, bringing an early end to the race due to time constraints. With five of the top ten finishing positions being disqualified, the official finishing line up was #73 Beckner in first, #7 Jonathan Abraham in second, and #1 Jesse Gargus in third.
#24, Don Peacock sat on the pole for the Outlaw Modified twenty five lap feature, but by lap two it was #78, Dave Cochran out in front. #28, Robbie Bean spun on lap seven bringing out a caution and bunching up the pack for a restart. #5, Ted Hoverson took the lead on lap nine and never let go. #5 Hoverson held on to take the win with #67, C. J. Haycraft in second and #55, Lance Hoverson in third.
Fifteen cars lined up for the TBARA Sprint Cars twenty five lap feature with #78H, Shane Miller on the pole. Talk about a fast race! It took these racers less that ten minutes to go from green flag to checkered flag. #19, Keith Butler crossed under the flag stand first to take the win followed by #78H Miller in second and # 22, Wayne Reutimann in third.
It seemed to be a night for blown engines and disqualifications and the Pure Stocks had their share during their thirty lap feature. #84, Bill VanDevender had the pole for the start of the race. By lap twenty one, three cars were out of the race due to blown engines. #56, Walt Korkiner took the lead on lap twenty six and held on for the win with #84 VanDevender in second. Due to a disqualification, #6, Kevin Utter landed the official third place finish.
Costumed race fans in in abundance as nearly 2000 people took the opportunity to dress for the occasion.Have you ever seen a man pull an eighteen thousand pound truck before? If you were at the home of Southern Thunder last night, you did. John Wooten, the "Worlds Strongest Man", pulled that truck about one hundred feet down the front stretch, and the "Amazing Gonzalas" had a concrete block busted over his head with a sledgehammer. Both of these guys were part of the half time show, along with 'Trick or Treat the drivers', for all the kids who came out with their family. Thanks to everyone for coming out and helping support the number one spectator sport in America. Stock Car Racing, at Charlotte County Speedway.
