Citrus Winter Spectacular Spices Up Off Season Racing | Citrus County Speedway will close out 2001 and kick off 2002 with special off-season racing at this fast quarter mile. In preparation for the Winter Spectacular, promoters Billy Hooker and Jimmy Wear will make some new alterations to the track with additional paving in the three and four turn, increasing the banking another six degrees in the third groove which should allow for three wide racing. Also the first phase of paving in the pits will be underway.
The Winter Spectacular will consist of two winter race dates, December 15, 2001 and Saturday January 19th 2002. Late Models will be set to run, all green, 100-lap races for $2,500 to win and paying back 14 thru 24th a minimum of $175. Format for qualifying will be time trials locking in the top fifteen to start. A 15-lap consolation race will qualify the next seven, with two promoters choices open to round out the 24 car-starting field. Fast qualifier receives $300 and second fastest will pick up $200.
There will be evening practice session set from 5-10 p.m. on Friday prior to race day. There will be overnight security to allow for race teams to leave their rigs in the pits overnight if they want to find local accommodations.
Top runners in the December race area eligible for an extra bonus for winning the January race. Running 1st-5th in December will pick up an additional $1,000 for a win in January. Sixth thru 10th the win bonus is $500 and 11th thru 15th in December will pick up an additional $250 for a win in January. Added to the Winter Spectacular race card for both dates will be 30-lap feature races for the Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks.
